CA Technologies announced new product releases in its identity-centric security portfolio that protect and enable the hybrid enterprise, spanning cloud, distributed, mobile, and mainframe. A new release of CA Privileged Access Manager helps control privileged user access to dynamic VMware NSX environments. IBM and several fellow OpenPOWER Foundation members revealed new technologies, collaborations and developer resources to enable clients to more deeply and more rapidly analyze data. The new offerings center on the tight integration of IBM's open and licensable POWER processors with accelerators, dedicated high performance processors that can be optimized for computationally intensive software code.

IBM and Xilinx, Inc., a provider of data center efficiency tools, announced a multi-year strategic collaboration to enable higher performance and energy-efficient data center applications through Xilinx FPGA-enabled workload acceleration on IBM POWER-based systems. IBM and Xilinx, through a private signed agreement and collaboration enabled by the OpenPOWER Foundation, are teaming to develop open acceleration infrastructures, software and middleware to address emerging applications such as machine learning, network functions virtualization, genomics, high performance computing and big data analytics.

Hadoop distribution provider Cloudera has introduced Cloudera Enterprise 5.5, including Cloudera Navigator Optimizer, a new product targeted at helping organizations improve big data workload performance and efficiency. Cloudera Navigator Optimizer, now in beta, is expected to be generally available in 2016. The new release of Cloudera Enterprise has three main areas of focus, according to Anupam Singh, head of data management at Cloudera.

SAP SE is offering the option to run the SAP Business One Cloud solution powered by the SAP HANA platform at data centers run by SAP, providing an end-to-end SAP-branded experience. Partners will now have three deployment options for the subscription-based offering of SAP Business One Cloud, including running in a partner's private hosted cloud, in a cloud infrastructure hosted by a third party, or in data centers run by SAP. Taking advantage of this offer, says SAP, will allow partners to help SME (small and midsize enterprise) customers gain the benefit of streamlined operations. The offering will be available first in North America, with expansion planned to Europe and Asia in 2016.

SUSE is teaming up with SAP on the Cloud Foundry Foundation's BOSH OpenStack Cloud Provider Interface (CPI) project, helping enable Cloud Foundry users to effortlessly run applications of their choice on cloud networks. The SAP-led Cloud Foundry OpenStack CPI project aims to improve the ease with which Cloud Foundry communicates with underlying OpenStack infrastructure, whether the cloud is public or private.

AP and Google Inc are entering a patent cross licensing agreement, covering the companies' existing patents and those filed over the next five years. The agreement advances the relationship between the companies, which joined the LOT Network in 2014, a community-based patent-licensing agreement designed to reduce for its members patent troll litigation and the growing practice of patent privateering.

EMC has unveiled an assortment of products and solutions designed to connect primary storage and data protection systems to private and public clouds. "Cloud has become a strategic imperative for our customers," said Christopher Ratcliffe, SVP, EMC Core Technologies. And, one of the things that EMC often hears from customers, he said, is that even if they don't want to use it today, they want to know that they have the option to do so in the future if they choose.

Splice Machine is releasing a new update to its relational database platform that will combine the power and flexibility of Hadoop and Spark. "Our version 2.0 takes our first version which scaled out on the Hadoop stack. Now, we are adding a new computation engine on HBase which is Spark," said Monte Zweben, co-founder and CEO of Splice Machine. "The benefit is that someone can use us as a regular SQL database management system and we will automatically take their queries and forward them to the proper computational engine for fast transactional types of updates."

Graylog, which provides the Graylog open source log management platform, has announced a MongoDB plug-in that integrates directly with the MongoDB database profiler to collect, parse, normalize, and aggregate log events from the profiler, thus enabling Graylog's search and analysis tools to help easily find and fix issues.
