IBM Security is offering a new service that allows companies to experiment with fully homomorphic encryption (FHE)—an emerging technology designed to allow data to remain encrypted even while being processed or analyzed in cloud or third-party environments. Building on groundwork and tools developed IBM Research and IBM Z, the new IBM Security Homomorphic Encryption Services provide a scalable hosting environment on IBM Cloud, along with consulting and managed services to help clients begin learning about and designing prototype solutions which can take advantage of FHE.

Oracle has announced the availability of the Oracle MySQL Database Service with integrated MySQL Analytics Engine, optimized for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). The new service will enable OCI customers to run sophisticated analytics directly against their operational MySQL databases without requiring complex data integration with a separate analytics database.

A recent study indicated that IT professionals were three times more likely to disagree with their leadership than professionals in other industries. Identifying a three-times-more-likely difference of opinion seems a significant variance. I don't know what detailed insights the study arrived at to account for this level of disagreeableness. Maybe the study considered IT folks as being more educated, more logical, and therefore more difficult?

Microsoft and Red Hat have collaborated for more than 4 years on SQL Server and have come up with a variety of ways to better manage the server internals for higher performance. For example, the Windows OS has Large Pages and an option called Lock Pages in Memory. In Linux, you have the same capabilities using Transparent Huge Pages via trace flag 834, and even more memory management options by tuning dirty page ratios to prevent disk swapping.
