The IBM Enterprise Cloud System provides Vissensa with the ability to deliver a pre-configured, pre-tested Linux platform which can outperform their existing x86 based cloud infrastructure. This capability is increasingly important to Vissensa customers who are adopting multi-hypervisor operating systems and technologies, and incorporating new technologies such as OpenStack within their solutions to help reduce costs and increase performance.

The Exadata Database Machine X4-8 has been designed to deliver extreme compute and data throughput for large database workloads using 8-socket database servers, intelligent storage, PCI flash cards, and unified InfiniBand connectivity. The Exadata Database Machine X4-8 expecially suited for a number of large scale enterprise scenarios, said Tim Shetler, vice president of product management, Oracle. "It is an ideal platform for hosting memory-intensive workloads such as the Oracle Database In-Memory option."

The industry hype would have you believe that the key word in the phrase "big data" is big, a reference to datasets so large and complex that they cannot be managed within the confines of traditional IT systems and that the many opportunities for operational improvement that come from better analysis of data and information are reserved for those in the enterprise. Understandable, but completely wrong.

After a 99% approval by the annual general meeting of shareholders in May, the company has been registered as a European Company by the Commercial Register. As a result, the German subsidiary has changed its name to SAP Deutschland SE & Co. KG. With this step, SAP says it is underscoring the company's international nature.

IBM announced second-quarter 2014 net income of $4.1 billion, compared with $3.2 billion in the second quarter of 2013, an increase of 28%. Total revenues for the second quarter of 2014 of $24.4 billion were down 2% from the second quarter 2013.

ServiceNow, the enterprise IT cloud company, has signed an agreement to acquire Neebula Systems for approximately $100 million. The addition of ServiceWatch will augment the capabilities of other ServiceNow IT Operations Management products such as Event Management, Orchestration and Discovery. The all-cash transaction is expected to close this month.

InfiniDB has released version 4.6 of its fourth generation columnar data platform, which includes enhanced support for large-scale join operations and support for additional data load commands to speed the extraction, transformation, and load (ETL) process. The company also introduced a new 60-day enterprise trial that includes InfiniDB Enterprise Manager, a management console to simplify the administration of InfiniDB, and provide real-time visibility into the performance and availability of users' InfiniDB servers.

To meet emerging challenges in the enterprise fueled by the expansion of cloud, mobile and IoT, Oracle has introduced SOA Suite 12c with simplified integration capabilities. "We are seeing a lot of demand for any-to-any integration," said Amit Zavery, group vice president, Fusion Middleware, Oracle. "We have more than 5,000 customers using SOA Suite today," he said, adding that this release moves the needle even further and allows Oracle to differentiate against the competition more starkly. The big challenge of managing data today is not simply the high volume or the fact that much of it is unstructured. It is the variety of data and the need to integrate it all in order to leverage its value, said MongoDB CEO Max Schireson during a keynote at the NoSQL database vendor's NYC conference, MongoDB World. NoSQL database vendor Couchbase has added on a $60 million series E-round of financing, led by two new investors, WestSummit and Accel Growth Fund. According to the company, the new investment is further evidence of the growth of the global big data market.

The operating system most relied upon by OpenStack users is Linux from a variety of distributors, and the hypervisor in greatest use is KVM (Kernel-based Virtualization Machine), according to the OpenStack 2014 Spring User Survey. The survey was conducted during April 2014 to gather information and feedback from organizations using OpenStack for development/QA, proofs-of-concept, and in production.

Violin Memory, Inc., a provider of all-flash storage arrays and appliances, has announced the availability of the Violin 6200 Series All Flash Array for the SAP HANA platform. Certification for the solution with SAP HANA was achieved by working in conjunction with the SAP Co-Innovation Lab in Palo Alto, Calif. Splunk, aprovider of a software platform for real-time operational intelligence, and Syncsort, a provider of big data software, have formed a technical alliance aimed at unlocking insights from machine data generated by mainframe systems, a critical and major source of corporate data. The companies say they have joint customers, including top telcos, retailers, insurance, healthcare and financial organizations, who rely heavily on mainframes for critical business operations, but have had difficulty leveraging mainframe data for business insights.
