Xcalar, a startup offering business analytic solutions, is releasing version 1.2 of its business analytics platform, enabling the fastest, easiest, and most cost-effective access to actionable insights. In addition to the platform update, Xcalar also announced it has secured over $21 million in venture funding to date with its Series A round led by Khosla Ventures. Other investors include industry visionaries Andy Bechtolsheim and Diane Greene, and Silicon Valley venture capital firm, Merus Capital.

DataCore is launching its DataCore Cloud Replication software solutions on the Microsoft Azure Marketplace to support customers' disaster recovery efforts. Customers with on-premises deployments of SANsymphony software-defined storage and Hyper-converged Virtual SAN can use the Microsoft Azure cloud as an added replication location to safeguard highly available systems.

Sumo Logic, a cloud-native machine data analytics platform, is receiving a $75 million funding that will lead to the continued growth of Sumo Logic's business. This recent round is led by Sapphire Ventures, with participation from new and existing investors including Accel Partners, DFJ Growth, Greylock Partners, Institutional Venture Partners (IVP), Sequoia Capital, Sutter Hill Ventures and others. Sumo Logic has raised a total of $235 million in funding over 7 years.

Hackolade, a Brussels-based provider of data modeling for NoSQL and multi-model databases, has announced the availability of Hackolade version 1.7, a new release of its data modeling software, to support both MongoDB version 3.4 and MongoDB Atlas, its cloud-hosted database as a service. This is one of the first next gen data modeling tools available on the market that helps in proper representation of physical data models for MongoDB collections and views.

As such, it made sense to put resource consumption at the top of the list when talking about database performance. Those days are gone. With more than 80% of databases running in virtual environments, where hardware is more commoditized every day, access to physical resources—CPU, memory, network, and disk—whenever needed is much easier. In fact, Moore's Law predicts that technology advancements will double every 2 years. Well, most physical resources are certainly on pace with that, or better.
