According to several different analysts, the number of connected objects by 2020 could be as low as 26 billion or as high as 50 billion. But even the low end of that range is quite large. IBM said Sunday that it is buying Red Hat, a provider of open source cloud software. The companies said they have reached a definitive agreement under which IBM will acquire all of the issued and outstanding common shares of Red Hat for $190 per share in cash, representing a total enterprise value of approximately $34 billion. IBM said that the deal will make IBM the #1 hybrid cloud provider in an emerging $1 trillion growth market.
